Generation gap

Yesterday, I was telling a couple of the college students about the Neil Young Pants on the Ground parody. (See previous post.)

All I got were blank stares.

Then it dawned on me.
Do you guys know who Neil Young is? More blank stares.
Have you heard of Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young?
Nothing.
Buffalo Springfield?
I got one, I've heard of them. (This kid served his mission in San Francisco.)

Man, oh man how unAmerican is that? Never heard of good 'ol Rock 'n Roll? Another reason to hate that Rap Junk.

"Old Man"

Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.

Old man look at my life,
Twenty four
and there's so much more
Live alone in a paradise
That makes me think of two.

Love lost, such a cost,
Give me things
that don't get lost.
Like a coin that won't get tossed
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.

Lullabies, look in your eyes,
Run around the same old town.
Doesn't mean that much to me
To mean that much to you.

I've been first and last
Look at how the time goes past.
But I'm all alone at last.
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.

Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.

For you "yungins" that still may not know who Neil Young is — he's the old dude that sang Long May You Run on Conan's last Tonight Show.

I have to say, Dave is constantly shocked at how many 60s/70s era music lyrics I have committed to memory. What can I say?? I love classic rock radio stations! Then again, a lot of these BYU kids would probably consider me "old" too these days...
