Words of advice
Over the years, I’ve had several words of advice thrown my way…some I’ve ignored, some I’ve heeded, some I’ve filtered, some I’ve taken with a grain of salt, some I’ve let go in one ear and out the other. But 27 years ago, I heard some words of advice that I wished to this day that I had taken to heart.
The fellow that gave them to me told me that he had received them from a friend of his. He wanted to pass them on. I seem to recall that he said he had ignored them when he had received them and had lived to regret it. Piquing my interest I anxiously listened. I should have put a finger in one ear so the advice would not slip out, but alas, it was one of those times that I let it go in one ear and out the other.
Each year — Spring through Summer, I’m paying the price for my ignorance and wishing that I had taken heed. So now, I want to pass his advice on to each of you younger men:
Don’t plant any more grass than your wife can mow.
