St David, AZ

As we left Tombstone and headed back towards Phoenix, we passed through St David — the home of Rosie and Alfred. cs and I had visited there some 25 years ago with jl and Megs — but they were both too young to have remembered it.

Anyways, we decided to drive past their place to show Bird. We drove past the Grandma Goodman Grocery store.

We turned off of the main highway onto the street where they lived. There was a lot more development than I remember from the last time — some kind of camping and trailer park across the street.

There it is. says, I.

cs: That's not it.

ld: I'm pretty sure it is, as we continue further up the road past an empty field.

cs: They've torn it down. It no longer exists.

We turn around and drive back towards the house.

ld: Didn't they live next door to Rosie's brother?

cs: Yes, Uncle John Busby.

ld: You mean like the name that is on that mailbox? Then that would mean that this one is their house.

cs: It doesn't look the same.

ld: Well, I believe it has been painted a different color since we last saw it.

I don't like it painted yellow. It looks...so different. My memories are much better than the reality.

I was once given the "old days" St. David tour by Esker Jimmie himself. It was quite delightful.

CS....We painted our house, too. I bet you didn't like it either. Before Chad's mission the inside walls were white, now they are taupe. Seriously, I fondly remember laying on a couch on the front porch while the breeze blew gently. This was truely the "Land that time forgot". As I lay there I was waiting for Barney Fife and Andy of Mayberry to drive by and wave. Oh, wait Andy Mayberry did come by once and a while.

I was searching the internet for photos of Grandma Goodmans and happened across your blog. Reading the comments brought a laugh out of me because Andy Mayberry is my dad and we did indeed live up the street.
